* Pvt. and Mrs. Benney Wise were the parents of a son, James Lee, born on April 17th.

* In the first win since 1955, the Stockton High School golfers defeated the Colby and Hill City golf teams. The low medalist for the day was Bill Scott. Other Stockton players were Gary Scott, Bruce Wanamaker, Ed Hageman, Kerry Maddy, and Ted Odle.

* The Woodston Senior class’s play was “Aunt Samantha Rules The Roost.” The cast was Judy Chesney, Patsy Bartholomew, Teresa Webb, Gay Redinger, Raenetta Hildreth, Ernestene Fry, Paul Chaffin, David Belveal, Dale Chaffin, Rogers Ives, and Paul Conger.

* Fifteen-year-old Bill Martin of Quinter broke his leg in an accident north of the cabin area at Webster Reservoir. The boy was with a group of Boy Scouts setting up camp. Some of them decided to excavate in the side of the cliff, which caved in and buried Bill. The other boys kept their heads and dug him out while others sought help.

* Looking Backward Fourteen Years Ago: Contracts were to be let for about 30 blocks of street improvements and seven blocks of alley paving. The feature story about Philo Hammond’s racehorse, Athlone Ruler, written by Bernice Brown, had appeared in the Kansas City Star. Two local youngsters, Bonnie Jo Yoxall and Robert Mason, had suffered broken noses in separate accidents.

* The wedding vows of Miss Susan Hayes and Larry Hrabe were solemnized on March 31st at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend. The bride chose a gown of imported crochet lace and chalk crepe. She carried a bridal bouquet of white roses.

* Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Jones had announced the engagement of their daughter Virginia to C. W. Hamilton II, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Hamilton.

* The Park Drive-In was having a night of horror with five masters of terror movies, including “The House of Usher,” “The Raven,” “The Premature Burial,” “The Pit and the Pendulum,” and “The Haunted Palace.”

* Miss Donna Jo Griebel was honored on her ninth birth anniversary with a party at her grandmother’s. Guests were Kathy Fenton, Kathy Miller, Patricia Robinson, Tammy Roskilly, Lori Copper, and Becky Jackson. Cake and ice cream cones were served.

* On sale at Glenn’ Mr. AG were beef stew meat for 65¢ a pound, bacon for 55¢ a pound, a five-pound bag of Shurfine flour for 39¢, and Emperor grapes for 15¢ a pound.
