* Mr. and Mrs. David Vane Maddy were the parents of a son, David James, born on June 11th. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Miller were the parents of a son, Lawrence Bradley, born on June 5th. S-Sgt/nd Mrs. Mike Ellsworth were the parents of a daughter, Diana Jean, born on June 1st.

* Leslie Conn of Stockton was elected to the Legislature from MacArthur County of the American Legion Boys State session held at the University of Kansas.

* Marsha Bouchey of Stockton was elected vice-president of the Master 4-H Club at the annual meeting of the organization during 4-H Round-Up at Kansas State University.

* Douglas Romeiser of Stockton was one of the six Kansas 4-Hers awarded a partial scholarship to the Kansas State University All State Music Clinic.

* With the 1967 version of the Rooks County Free Fair only two months away, secretary Butch Ostmeyer had announced the addition of a Fine Arts Department category.

* Gloria Marshall (15), and Vicki Wagner (16) were injured about 16 miles northwest of Stockton while riding on a Honda belonging to Gloria’s father, Ferrell Marshall. Gloria was the driver and the accident was the result of the motorcycle blowing a tire. Gloria was unconscious for a while, but after regaining consciousness, the two girls walked in their bare feet for nearly a mile to a farmhouse from which aid was summoned. Vickie was treated at the Health Center and released. Gloria was taken to the Plainville hospital suffering from numerous injuries including deep cuts and bruises.

* From The Feminine Slant By The Office Cat: In this day and age, it’s just about impossible to make both ends meet….even if they are elasticized.

* Looking Backward Fourteen Years Ago: Wheat was beginning to come into local elevators much earlier than usual. Webster’s Peter Pan Food Store, which had been closed for a week of remodeling, had held a big open house.

* Obituaries published were for Lewis Franklin Griffin, Delbert Leone Kinion, Johnie Henry Haines, and Grover C. Brittian.

* Receiving their First Holy Communion at the St. Thomas Church were Regina Hrabe, Patricia McCall, Brad Krob, Greg Bennett, and Duffy Laska. Flower girls were Becky Lytle, Tammy Newell, Brenda Westhusin, and Gwen Mahoney.

* Miss Ann McCaslin and Mr. Thomas De Rosear were married on June 10th, at the First Congregational Church in Stockton. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a white peau de soie gown designed with a Sabrina neckline.

* Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Romeiser announced the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Lodeska Marlene, to William Clyde Lovin. A July 15th wedding was planned.

* Showing at the Park Drive-In were the movies “North by Northwest” starring Cary Grant, and “Way, Way Out” starring Jerry Lewis and Connie Stevens.

* On sale at Webster’s Supermarket were ten pounds of potatoes for 49¢, eight cans of pork and beans for $1.00, two boxes of macaroni and cheese for 33¢, and four cans of Bestyet peaches for $1.00.
