* Marine Cpl. Gary W. Byfield was air-evacuated from Vietnam and arrived at Brook General Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. He had second and third-degree burns received when a 155 mm Howitzer tube exploded and was seriously ill, but recovery was expected.

* Mrs. Neva Marshall won one of the 105 high-intensity lamps givenawaythepastmonth in the Pharmacists Publications Relations national contest. Coupons to enter the competition were at the Stockton Drug Center and were sent to national headquarters through the local store. A seven-day vacation for two by plane, three sewing machines, and 105 other prizes were awarded each month.

Looking Backward Fourteen Years Ago: Goblin’s Glory had netted $475.00. Donna Wiklund was Queen and John Griebel King. Mrs. Evelyn Eckman had broken her arm when she fell from a kitchen stool.

* Peanut Day in Stockton had over 4,000 bags of peanuts to sell during the event. The high school band was to be on Main Street, and the VFW Auxiliary was hosting a costume parade. The Nova Theatre had a free movie for everyone in the afternoon.

* Diane Rene Nachtigal became the bride of Jerry McReynolds of Woodston.

* Arlinda Jean Desaire and Kenneth Michael McLaughlin were married on September 2nd.

* Carolyn Post and Second Lt. Thomas Dale Baxter exchanged vows on September 10th.

* On sale at Webster’s Supermarket were spare ribs for 49¢ a pound, four cans of Hi-C for $1.00, a bag of potato chips for 49¢, Right Guard spray deodorant for 57¢, and VO5 hair spray for $1.27.

* Stephensons Good Clothes had boys dress shirts for $1.68, Men’s sweaters for $4.88, and Men’s shoes for $3.88 for the Peanut Day Festival.

* Showing at the Nova Theatre was Elvis in “Double Trouble.”
