Why, it even drew a honeymoon couple last week.” Clark Stocking: “Don’t you hear my bones creaking now that I’m a grandpa?” Elizabeth Dryden: “I haven’t done any shooting lately as the dog hasn’t scared up anything but skunks, and they are pretty smelly.”

* Leonard Dix received serious, but not critical injuries when he was driving into Stockton from his farm home northwest of Stockton. A deer started to cross the road ahead of him and Leonard stepped on the brake and the pickup he was driving went out of control and into a ditch where it struck a telephone pole and was badly damaged. Leonard was hurled out of the vehicle and received a badly crushed and broken right forearm and all the ribs on one side were broken, with one of them puncturing his lung. He was not rendered unconscious and had started to walk back to his home when he was picked up by Leigh Muir. He was taken by ambulance to Mary Lanning Hospital at Hastings, Nebraska where as much repair work as possible was done.

* Sonny Moore’s Roustabouts were set to perform at the Rooks County Free Fair. The famous animal troupe had even performed for the royal family of England.

* Mr. and Mrs. Roy DeRosear and family were planning to move to Hastings, Nebraska where Roy had been associated with Montgomery Ward Company for the past eleven months. Roy had worked as the manager of the JC Penney Store in Stockton for five years. He had also leased the Park and Nova Theatres for a period of three years.

* From The Feminine Slant By The Office Cat: A perfect world: High wages and low prices.

* The Harmonica Rascals were the biggest attractions in show business including radio, TV, movies, and state and county fairs for the past 34 years, and they had been secured for the Rooks County Free Fair. Their huge array of harmonicas, some valued at $2,000.00, included everything from a miniscule two-incher to a twenty-three inch model. For one night only, the group was ready to provide its audiences with good solid musical entertainment embracing everything from such classical gems as “Hungarian Rhapsody” to popular favorites like “Peg O’ My Heart.”

* Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Pfeifer were the parents of a son, Steve Allen, born on August 22nd, 1963.

* Looking Backward Fourteen Years Ago: John Towns had been re-elected chairman of the Rooks County Republican Central Committee. Tragedy struck the community when eighteen-year-old Don Odle, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Odle, had drowned while swimming with friends in a farm pond. Oyers Food Market was advertising new cabbage at 5¢ per pound.

* On sale at Slansky IGA were three frozen Morton cream pies for $1.00, a plastic ruler for 7¢, a sixteen box of Crayola crayons for 19¢, cold cuts for 49¢ a pound and ten pounds of beet sugar for 89¢.

* Showing at the Park Drive-In Theatre were the movies, “Seven Seas to Calais” starring Rod Taylor and Keith Mitchell, and “Advance to the Rear” starring Glenn Ford and Stella Stevens.
