The 2009-2010 Stockton Strider Dance team had been announced with Amanda Rubottom, Audrey Green, Delilah Griebel, Hannah Lindsey, Sara Saunders, Maggie Spires, Haley Dix, Rebekah Niblock, Molly Schleicher, Richelle Paulson, Mary-Lynn Griebel, and Carlee Lindsey selected.

The Stockton Cheerleading Squad for the coming year consisted of Jordann Wiltfong, Taylor Morgan, Aftan Winters, Brooke Kee, Brooke Waller, Chandler Johnston, Ravin States, and Alyssa Conyac.

Running for the open seat for the Stockton City Commission were Victor Bird and Reesa Brown.

Obituaries were published for Jerry D. Spiess (1953), and Glenn Eldon Mitchum (1923).

Looking Back Fourteen Years Ago in 1995— Five trumpeter swans were spotted at Webster Reservoir. The arrival of the swans was most welcome in light of the intentional killing of three juvenile swans and one adult female swan at Webster in January of 1992. Lee Phelps and Gail McComb had retained their Stockton City Commission seats.

56 Years Ago Spotlighting The Year 1953— William “Bill” Gouldman had a new Cat Diesel 212 grader, putting it to work immediately on the drive-in ramps. Quenzer’s Hardware and Appliance Company had Servel gas refrigerators on sale for $449.95; electric ranges starting at $69.50; spin dryers for $49.50; and electric washers starting at $19.50. Ken Cassel, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Cassel, who was a student at the University of Denver, recently underwent a new method of heart examination as a result of being called up for Army service. Ken has had a heart ailment since birth and his type of ailment has interested all of the doctors who had occasion to examine him. The method used was called cardiac catheterization.

What Stocktonites Were Doing 98 Years Ago in 1911—M. J. Ragan moved into Stockton Wednesday and is occupying the Hazen property east of the M. E. Church. On Thursday the patrons of Phone Line 22 were putting up a new wire, which will be known as Line 26. There will be twelve patrons on each line. The new monument erected by Sage & Totten on the Ruby lot at the cemetery is an elegant block of granite, cut with an ornamental crest and handsomely engraved on the front with the family name, and the particulars of John Ruby’s life and death on one side with Mrs. Esther M. Ruby’s on the other.

Rooks County employee B. J. Poore had received a lovely plaque at the 2009 Works! Conference for her commitment to learning about and educating the public on recycling.

Birth Announcement— Perri Reece Wagner was born on February 18th to parents Travis and Betsy Wagner of Olathe.

Showing at he Nova Theatre was the movie “Taken.”

The Stockton Tiger track season was underway with a new coach, Adam Bedient, who had replaced long-time track coach Lonnie Weiser. Bedient was in his first year as a teacher and coach at SHS with an extensive track background, having run track and cross country all through middle and high school.
