Emily E. Schroeder, age 72, Bloomfield, Neb., passed away Monday, October 9, 2023, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, Nebraska.

She was born October 15, 1950, the daughter of Harold and Ethel (Ward) Massie, who adopted her on February 14, 1951. She was the youngest of two siblings. The daughter of a Methodist minister, she frequently moved as a child, living in many communities throughout Nebraska, including Blue Springs, McCool Junction, Gibbon, and Arnold. She finally had a permanent home when the family moved to Sidney in 1963. She graduated from Sidney High School in 1969.

After graduation, Emily moved to Lincoln and attended Nebraska Wesleyan University. While living in Lincoln, she met Stan. Emily said she thought he looked handsome in his military uniform. The couple were married April 27, 1974, at the University Chapel in Lincoln.

After their marriage, the couple moved to Bloomfield, establishing their farm seven miles west of Bloomfield. They have two children: a son, Jeremy, and a daughter, Staci. Emily worked as a farmwife and at the home most of her life. After the kids moved out, she worked at NorthStar Services.

Emily was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Bloomfield.

Emily loved her kids and grandkids immeasurably and could frequently be found visiting her children and watching her grandkids compete in sports, even if she had no idea what was going on. Emily and Stan enjoyed riding on their motorcycle together and took many trips, including favorites to Copper Canyon, Mexico and a cruise to Alaska. While at home, she enjoyed reading, bird watching, tolerated Stan's rattling on, and especially enjoyed playing cards at the Country Club.

Emily is survived by husband, Stan of Bloomfield; son, Jeremy (Dara) Schroeder of Wahoo, Neb.; daughter, Staci (Tom) Ketelsen of Stockton; grandchildren, Carson, Jackson, and Makenna Schroeder; brother Tom (Sandi) Massie of Wahoo, Neb.; and numerous friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law, Bill and Mildred Schroeder; sister-in-law, Debbie Schroeder; and nephew, Mark Massie.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Bloomfield. Reverend Terry Krueger will officiate, with burial at a later date.

Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Brockhaus Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.
