Gregg Douglas Cooper, 74, of Hoxie, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at the Sheridan County Health Complex.

He was born in Hoxie, Kansas, on April 25, 1949, to Mark and Rose (Meier) Cooper.

He grew up in Hoxie, Kansas and attended the Hoxie schools, graduating from Sheridan Community High School with the Class of 1967.

After graduation, Gregg entered the United States Navy. He was stationed on an aircraft carrier off the coast of Vietnam. He served his country for five years.

Gregg married Carol Ostmeyer on April 23, 1969, at the St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Hoxie. They celebrated 54 years of marriage. Gregg and Carol made their home in Hoxie where they raised their three sons.

Gregg worked at Heim TV and Appliance, installing and repairing HVAC systems, among other services, until he retired. Gregg was never idle; after retirement, he continued installing and repairing HVAC.

Gregg and Carol enjoyed camping in their RV at regional lakes until they found their second home at Webster Lake. They would spend their summers at Webster Lake. Fishing was another activity Gregg loved. In Gregg’s eyes, there was nothing better than camping, fishing, and visiting with friends and family at the lake. The loves of his life were his wife, sons, and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Carol of Hoxie, Kansas; sons Daryl Cooper of Hill City, Kansas, Scott Cooper (Tasha) of Hoxie, Doug Cooper (Emily) of Overland Park; brothers Bruce Cooper (Jeree) of Hoisington, Brad Cooper (Becky) of Newton; sister Marsha Moss of Hoxie; grandchildren Josh Taylor, Cayle Taylor, Zach Cooper, Carley Cooper, Rose Cooper, and Luke Cooper; and great-grandchildren Kadance, Harper, Jaxsen, and Kendal Jo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Rose Cooper.

A Catholic Mass and Burial will be held at the St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Hoxie on Friday, October 6, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., with inurnment to follow the service in the St. Frances Cabrini Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 5, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with the Vigil Service and Rosary at 7:00 p.m., all at the Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home.
