Marlene Jane McCue, 82 years of age, of Mankato, Kansas, passed away Friday, October 6, 2023, at the Ascension Via-Christi of Manhattan in Manhattan, Kansas.  

She was born on November 11, 1940, in Smith County, Kansas to Phillip and Hulda (Dettmer) Long. 

Marlene was a graduate of Jewell High School.

Marlene married Leo McCue on August 25, 1960, in Jetmore, Kansas. He preceded her in death on September 2, 2011.

Marlene was a homemaker and also a bookkeeper at the local gas station that her husband Leo ran. Later, Marlene enjoyed helping with her husband Leo occasionally at the Stockton High School doing janitorial work.

She was a member of the Methodist Church in Stockton.

Her hobbies included crafting, sewing, and, most of all, spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her three sisters, Sharon Beckley and Joy Hancock, both of Mankato and Betty Zade, Belleville; three brothers, Donald Long, Mankato, Ronald Long, Jewell, and Darwin Long (Crystal) Ionia; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Anderson McCue; parents, Phillip and Hulda Long; three sisters, Carol Gordine, Phyllis Gates, and Virginia Dix; and her five brothers-in-law, Willie Beckley, Melvin Zade, Mervin Dixon, Alfred Gordine, and Pete Hancock.

There will be no visitation.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 14, 2023, at the Christian Church in Mankato, with Pastor Thaddeus Hinkle officiating. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Mankato.
