Friday night’s game at Tiger Stadium marked the debut of 8-man football for Stockton, but the outcome was anything near what the team and its fans had hoped for. In fact, it was more of a wake-up call for the Tigers as they were blanked by the Sylvan Unified Mustangs 46-0 in a game that was called at the half due to the mercy rule.

The Stockton Junior High Football squad opened the 2008 season with a 22-0 win on the road over Hill City.

Looking Back 14 Years Ago (1994) — After doing the books, the Fair Board was happy with projected profits of just over $10,000. A jersey auction was added to the annual Homecoming activities. Royalty candidates were Jean Baxter, Tara Hahn, Casey Maddy, Rich Bouchey, Joe Gasper and Todd Kriley. Country Connections Gifts & More was preparing to open at 1203 E. Main. The Classic Barn received $1,370 from “barn” t-shirt sales at Bates of Stockton.

56 Years Ago (1952) — The Webster Dam, soon to be in the process of construction, was causing many buildings to be moved from that town, with the grade and high school buildings also needing a new location. The school was to continue at the present site until the close of the 1952-1953 term. Martha, six-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Conn, received a very painful injury to her ring finger when she shut it in the door of her home. The end of the finger was cut off and the fingernail was pulled out by the roots.

98 Years Ago (1910) — Miss Ella Williams’ kindergarten school was scheduled to open in the north room of the old stone school building. Kindergarten teaching is recognized by all educators as the most valuable preparatory training the children can have. Don’t neglect it. All parents of little children too young for the public schools should enter them in Miss Williams’ kindergarten.
