* Stockton High School wrestler Carlos Gallaway was headed to the State Wrestling Tournament in Hays.

* The Kansas Choral Director’s Association selected Stockton High School student Miranda Wildeman to be a KCDA State Honor Choir member.

* The wedding of Stephanie Mae Lowry to Paul Richard Seib of Hays was held on January 11th. The couple was married at the Shalimar Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. Nevada. The wedding dinner was held at DJT Restaurant in Trump Towers.

Mrs. Josie Hensley, Samuel Blankenship, John Letchworch, and H. H. Tepe, all of Squires, Mo., came then, and on Tuesday, R. M. Darnell of Kansas City dropped in. Jack Shaw traded the northwest quarter of Section Three in Lanark Township to Al Martin for the blacksmith shop on West Main Street with its contents, a jack, and a stallion. Will Vest, who has been running the place, will move onto his farm. J. O. Boylan will work at his old occupation, paper hanging, and painting, in the coming season. * 56 Years Ago, Spotlighting The Year 1954— Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Grover were the parents of a son, Michael Steve. The first winter storm struck the area and began with thunder, lightning, hail, and sleet before it raged into a regular blizzard. Local people sat in their cars all night long due to the storm. Some were Mrs. Merl Griebel and son, John, and the bureau men, Clifford Schribner, Bill Wiley, H. L. Jacobs, and Walter Pederson, who had been out at Webster Dam. Mr. and Mrs. Verl Idleman entertained 14 people overnight who could not pass a panel truck, which had skidded across the highway. The country people suffered real hardships as the REA current was off for over 36 hours.

* Looking Back 14 Years Ago (1996)—According to information from utility service applications with the City of Stockton, approximately 40 new households were established in 1995. Melodie Dower, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Harold Mauck of Stockton, was selected to help run the 1996 Olympic Torch across Kansas. The Dane G. Hansen Foundation named five Rooks County high school seniors as winners in its 23rd annual scholarship competition: Matthew Moll, Israel Jirak, Matthew McShea of Stockton, and Adam Wehril and Julie Westhusin of Plainville.

* Lloyd E. Creevan's family was marking his 80th birthday with a card shower.
