* And So They Say: Robert Osborn: “I don’t know why the Record doesn’t print up a bunch of post cards for people to give to their kids when they go to college with places to check such things as ‘I am well,’ ‘I have been sick,’ ‘I have been busy,’ or ‘I need money.’” Nolan Harper: “The City warned last week about taking dead animals out to the dump, but someone threw a cowhide into the incinerator. As it was only part of the animal, they evidently didn’t think it counted, but it sure raised quite a stink.” Gene Miller: “I think those football boys would do anything for Coach Becker.”

* Stephanie Stewart was crowned Homecoming Queen at the half of the Stockton/Phillipsburg football game. Corky Hagan was crowned King. Their attendants were Diana Eagon, Vicki Olson, Greg Stice and Russell Sammons. Crown bearers were little Gina Mahoney and James Bellerive. The sophomore class won the float contest with the float depicting a football player beating a rug made out of a panther skin.

* Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lee Palmer were the parents of a daughter, Candra Jo, born on September 28th.

* Charlene, the one-and-a-half-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs.Von Scarrow, had received a deep gash between the thumb and forefinger on her left hand when she was playing in her yard. She had been carrying a pop bottle and fell, breaking the bottle. Eight stitches were necessary to repair the wound, and it was not known how much damage was done to the tendons.

* Royce and Verl Muir, had entered their 4-H fat steers in the Kansas National Junior Livestock Show in Wichita. Royce had entered his Hereford in the heavyweight class and placed 11th, with Verl placing 28th in the middleweight Angus class. Both boys had sold their calves at the auction with Royce receiving $29.50 per hundred weight and Verl receiving $27.50 for his Angus.

* Mrs. Jack McMillen had been named chairman for the Bowlers Victory League tournament that was to be held statewide in November. The participants were to bowl in their local alleys with the proceeds to go to the Veterans hospitals.

* Raenetta Hildreth, Woodston Sunflower 4-H Club, had been selected as one of the 30 delegates from the state to participate in the Home Improvement Education Trip to Kansas City. The two-day activities included a guided tour of the period furniture exhibits at William Rockhill Nelson Art Gallery, a visit to a furniture factory, a furniture store and some furnished homes and apartments.

* The local Punt, Pass and Kick Competition had been held with 72 boys taking part. Jones Motor & Implement Company and Stockton Lions Club had co-sponsored the competition. Winners in their age categories were Kevin Ross (8), Kyle Cederberg (9), Steven Yoxall (10), David Schneider (11), Ricky Peterson (12), and Chuck Look (13).

* Looking Backward Fourteen Years Ago: The bids for foundation construction work on the Webster Dam were opened on October 2nd. Jesse Hunter had been injured in a combine accident. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bartlett were planning to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on October 29th. Carol Holsman was the football queen.

* Mrs. Judy Andrews and Harold Maddy had been married in a quiet ceremony by Probate Judge James H. Gilbert on October 3rd.
Prizes to be given away at the Nova Theatre for Peanut Day included a transistor radio, boxing gloves, a 24 bottle case of Pepsi, Teem or Mountain Dew. Admission was six bottle caps.

* Mr. and Mrs. George Ostmeyer were hosts for cocktails and dinner at the Rooks County Country Club in honor of the twenty-fifth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ostmeyer. The three-tiered flower wedding cake, made of white carnations, interspersed with salmon pink baby roses, was the centerpiece for the head table. Mr. and Mrs. Ostmeyer were presented with a silver coffee service from the group of attendees.

* Showing at the Nova Theatre were the movies, “Harper” starring Paul Newman, Lauren Bacall, Julie Harris and Janet Leigh, and “Apache Gold” starring Lex Barker.

* Miss Carol Christine Paynter had exchanged marriage vows with Mr. Myron Desmarteau on June 30th in the St. Thomas Catholic Church. Given in marriage by her father, the bride was radiant in a floor length gown of delustered satin.

* On sale at Slansky IGA were homegrown watermelon s for 49¢ each, sliced bacon at 69¢ a pound, six cans of Libby pumpkin for $1.00 and thirteen cans of Dog House dog food for $1.00.
