* And So They Say: Chuck Hageman: “I got out of raking leaves Sunday by playing golf.” Clark Stocking: “Our secretary is no doubt having a good time on her vacation, but I wish she was back at her desk.” Edna Stice: “I hope that whoever it was who poisoned my poor puppy is happy because of his cruel deed.”

* Rooks County had gone along with the State of Kansas in putting Governor Robert Docking, Democrat, into the state house in the general election by a narrow unofficial margin of 11 votes.

* Mr. and Mrs. Bob Angelovic of Wichita were the parents of a daughter, born on November 9th. Mr. and Mrs. Loren Newell were the parents of a daughter, Marcy Leigh, born on October 27th. Mr. and Mrs. John Fyfe of Overland Park, were the parents of a daughter born on November 7th.

* There was a break-in at Damar which was being investigated by the Rooks County Sheriff’s Office. The break-in occurred at the Skelly Oil Company Station where entrance was accomplished by prying the front door open. The cash register was opened and about $50.00 in cash taken.

* The Stockton Fire Department had made a run to the Health Center earlier in the week where a trash fire had gotten out of control. It was feared that the blaze would set the young cedar trees near the building on fire.

* Ten-year-old Barbara, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Lala of the Woodston area, had received a slight concussion as a result of a fall from a horse. She was hospitalized for several days and had made an excellent recovery.

* The City employees had been busy at work extending some water mains in the southwest part of town of a distance of aproximately700 feet. The extension was being made from the Park Drive-in to the Bobbitt Machine Company as well as to the Winton Sheffer residence.

* Two Stockton FFA teams and three 4-H teams had participated in the Northwest District Land Judging Contest in Atwood. Stockton Team No. 1 placed in the gold emblem and third overall behind Norton and Atwood. Team No. 2 placed eleventh with Eldon Kriley placing tenth overall and Bob Lowry placing twelfth. In the 4-H Division, the No. 1 and No. 2 teams tied for second place. Ray Bartholomew placed fifth individually with Rodney Carsten placing sixth; Ted Odle placing seventh; Tony McReynolds placing eighth; Mark LeSage placing ninth; and Philip Probasco placing tenth.

* Two Rooks County Implement Company couples had won trips to Nassau as a result of a nation-wide contest for John Deere dealers for tractor sales. Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Rupp, and Mr. and Mrs. Terry Rupp were the lucky winners.

* Looking Backward Fourteen Years Ago: The contract for foundation excavation work at the Webster Dam had been officially let to the apparent low bidder, H. N. Rodgers & Son, as previously announced. Mrs. W. F. McNulty had left on the first lap of a trip to Holland. Mr. and Mrs. John Lowry were to celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Eades were the parents of a son born on November 8th.

*The1962whiteChevrolet station wagon belonging to John B. Smith that had been taken from the back of the Smith Furniture Store on October 28th had been discovered at Goodland. It had evidently been there all week, but no one had paid attention to it. The wife of the sheriff had noticed it parked near an office where she worked and noticed a flat tire. She finally mentioned it to her husband. It was returned to Stockton and given a thorough examination to determine damage and for fingerprints. Nothing turned up, so as far as leads as to who had taken it, it was believed it might have been two youthful hitchhikers who had been seen in Stockton the afternoon of the day it was taken.

* The international Grand Champion Six Horse Hitch, six gigantic Clydesdale horses weighing about a ton apiece, was to be at Webster’s Supermarket on Thursday afternoon.

* Showing at the Nova Theatre were the movies “Nevada Smith” starring Steve McQueen and Brian Keith, as well as “Visit to a Small Planet” starring Jerry Lewis.

* Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Roskilly had entertained a number of children in honor of the eighth birth anniversary of their daughter, Tammy. The children had attended the movie at the Nova Theatre and enjoyed a wiener roast at the park. Guests were Tamera Atwill, Donna Spencer, Stevie and Linda Farr, Verna Johnston, Becky Romeiser and Elda Pulec.

* On sale at Webster’s Supermarket were center cut roasts for 47¢ a pound, Miracle Whip salad dressing for 39¢ a quart jar, two bottles (mix or match) of Suave cream rinse, shampoo or hairspray for 99¢.
