* Owing to the quick work on the part of Sheriff Elmer Odle, night watchman Stanley Carver and patrolman Carl Rempe of Phillipsburg, three young men from Colorado, who had held up Terry’s Steak House at Nicodemus less than an hour before, had been apprehended. Two of the men had numerous previous offenses against the law with the third having none, but he was the owner of the car in which they were traveling. The robbery had occurred at about 11:00 o’clock on Saturday evening. The proprietor thought it was a joke when they said it was a hold-up until his saw the pistol pointed in his direction. They took around $70.00 in cash in the cigar box and several checks. The proprietors got word to the Graham County Sheriff and were able to describe the car. Sheriff Odle, who was on his way back to Stockton from Zurich picked up the all-points on his radio. He waited at the highway near the Webster Reservoir and radioed a message to Stockton with Carver and Rempe responding. When the car came by Elmer, he trailed it into town at 85 mph. The men tried a little dodging, but were soon hemmed in on Main Street and offered no resistance. They had thrown the two stolen guns out of the car, but they were recovered. At the time of the printing, neither the money nor the cigar box had been found.

* The soda fountain in the Lee Phelps Cash Drug Store was being torn out with the space on the west side of the room to be utilized to display merchandise with the greeting cards probably moved into the space. The fountain had been installed by Lloyd Viers 25 or more years ago.

* Looking Backward Fourteen Years Ago: Chuck Lamoreaux had purchased the Alamo Courts. Bernita Byerly, who had been hospitalized with polio, had been fitted with leg braces and was being released from the hospital. The Health Center fundraising campaign was starting with Ralph Burlin as chairman of the committee.

* Ralph Keilhotz, Alice Campbell, Edwin Thomas Considine, Jarot Otis Newbrey and Ralph Lewis Mason had passed away.

* On sale at Slansky IGA were twenty Ruby Red grapefruit for $1.00, six TV pot pies for $1.00, choice round steak for 79¢ a pound, and rib end pork chops for 59¢ a pound.

* Showing at the Nova Theatre were the movies “Assault on a Queen” starring Frank Sinatra and Virna Lisi, and “A Man Could Get Killed” starring James Garner and Sandra Dee.

* Ileta Baxter, Myrna Kincaid, Elaine Yoxall and Darlene Farr with the VFW Auxiliary, had packed, wrapped and mailed, 23 Christmas boxes to overseas servicemen from the area. Each box contained four pencils, two pens, one Ever Sharp pencil, a deck of playing cards, one comb, one paperback book, two packages of gum, three packages of pre-sweetened Kool-Aid, hard candy and popcorn, two packages of Kleenex, and one dozen cookies. Donating some of the supplies were Lee Phelps Cash Drug, the City of Stockton, Kerry Maddy, the Stockton National Bank and Mrs. Ed Baxter.
