* And So They Say: Chuck Waller: “It’s awfully hard to convince the kids that it’s time to go to bed while the sun is still shining.” Linda Turnbull: “Sunday was the first time I ever went to a party empty handed and came home with a car full of loot.” Lionel Carter: “There are several places of business which won’t let me in because I flapped my mouth in front of a Record reporter.” Freddie Baughman: “My stockings run, but I don’t.”

* The Stockton Chapter of the Future Farmers of America was named a Gold Emblem Chapter again, being one of the 17 chapters in the state to receive the coveted award. Receiving the State Farmers Degrees from the local chapter were Brent Casad, Alton Hazen, Eldon Kriley, Robert Lowry, and Kerry Maddy. Alton Hazen also won the District Sheep Production FFA Foundation Award. David Elliston sang in the State FFA chorus, and official delegates from the Chapter were Kriley, Lowry, Maddy, and Casad.

* Forty-three seniors were to receive their diplomas on May 19th. There are 21 boys and 22 girls, with Stephanie Stewart as Valedictorian and Karla Smith as Salutatorian.

* Jerry Riseley was one of the Kansas attorneys who had received a 50-year recognition for membership in the Kansas Bar Association.

* From The Feminine Slant By The Office Cat: I saw in a recent Hays paper that they are organizing a group over there to help young lawbreakers. “Ye, Gads!” Don’t they do enough damage without help?

* Looking Backward Fourteen Years Ago: Harry Cross, a young Stockton man stationed at Smoky Hill Air Force Base at Salina, had downed in the Bennington Lake. The Fleming/Larson Liquor Store had been held up and robbed in broad daylight. Nebraska people had purchased land at the east edge of Stockton from Mrs. Kathleen Wieland, and a motel was to be constructed. The marriage of Elaine Van Horn and Dr. B. M. Korb took place on May 3rd.

* The Get-Together Club had met at the Blanche Glodfelty residence. Ten members answered the call, with guests Edna Breckenridge and Esther Murphy in attendance. Opal Wilkenson was the program leader.

* Mr. and Mrs. John Locke had entertained in their home in honor of the 14th birth anniversary of their daughter Janelle. There were about 35 guests present from the seventh- and eighth-grade classes. The young people enjoyed dancing, and a lovely lunch had been served.

* A combination birthday party and bridal shower were given for Ernestine Fry at the Dee Webb home with Teresa Webb and Patsy Bartholomew as hostesses. A supper and games were played before the honored guest opened her gifts. Janie Melton, Aneta Noble, Lucille Dibble, and Diane Miller were present.

* On sale at Slansky IGA were five ears of corn for 29¢, fresh pork chops for 69¢, three jars of grape jelly or jam preserves for 89¢, and six cans of Campbell’s chicken noodle soup for $1.00.

* Showing at the Park Drive-In were the movies “Ambush Bay” starring Hugh O’Brian and James Mitchum, and “Any Wednesday,” Staring Jane Fonda, Jason Robards, and Dean Jones.
