Excel Industries sold for $375 million HESSTON — Stanley Black & Decker has entered into an agreement to acquire Hesston, Kansas based Excel Industries for $375 million in cash, according to a media release from the company. The 600-employee Excel Industries, founded in 1960, is a leading designer and manufacturer of premium commercial and residential turf-care equipment under the distinct brands of Hustler Turf Equipment and BigDog Mower Co.

Hays Girl Scouts donate Kid Kits to BBBS, CASA HAYS — Girl Scout Troop 11210 recently donated activity bags to Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Ellis County and CASA of the High Plains. The bags, which they call Kid Kits, are full of activities for boys and girls of all ages.

FHSU dedicates Schmidt Foundation Center for Art and Design HAYS — On Friday, August 20, the Tiger community came together to celebrate Fort Hays State University’s new, stunning Schmidt Foundation Center for Art and Design and to commemorate its namesakes, Bob and Pat Schmidt. The Schmidts enjoyed nearly 69 years of married life together before Pat passed away in 2015 and Bob in 2017.
