This And That

Body
* Everything seems to be misleading these days. Case in point— went to a name-brand store a few weeks ago with my daughter. On almost every display and clothes racks in the place were signs that read “40% Off Sale.” We even asked the sales lady about the bargains. She said, “Yes, everything is 40% off.” So we went on our merry way and did a lot of shopping damage. Boy, were we surprised when we got to the checkout counter, and NOTHING we wanted to purchase was 40% off. The sales lady behind the counter said it was just a few “select” items that were 40% off! I guess you really do have to read the very fine print on all of the signs that were literally on every rack in the store! So that was our mistake, but to be told right to our faces that everything with a sign was 40% off is what gets me. Needless to say, I won’t be going back there any time soon.

THIS AND THAT * A great big “Thank You” to everyone who helped clean off driveways and sidewalks around town after the snowstorm. It was greatly appreciated! * Who remembers going out in your backyard on a hot summer day to “lay out.” Essentials were a boom box tuned into your favorite radio station, lots of baby oil and Sun In sprayed in your hair! * Remember this Spring that God loves you.

* Actress Yvette Mimieux passed away at the age of 80. She made many films throughout her lifetime with my favorite being the classic, “Where The Boys Are.” (FYI: If you haven’t seen it, it is worth checking out.) Besides Mimieux, the all-star cast included Connie Francis, Dolores Hart, Paula Prentiss, George Hamilton, Jim Hutton and Frank Gorshin. And if you are of a certain age, I bet you are singing, or at least humming, the theme song made famous by Francis.

Things You Didn't Know About Han Solo

Body
THINGS YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT HAN SOLO * I love all things Star Wars in the first trilogy of movies and have written a couple editorials about the films and characters. But here are a few things I bet you didn’t know about one of my favorite characters, Han Solo! * In George Lucas’ original script of “Star Wars,” Han Solo was not the square-jawed, human scoundrel, but instead he was a green swamp-like creature from the Alien race called Ureallians.
