Music is a gift from God. How many times has a song touched your heart and led you to tears, to repentance, or to action? Roger Cooper gave us a taste on Sunday of how music has changed his life. His story is one that could probably be repeated by many.

(The following article is taken from the unapproved December 12th Woodston City Council regular meeting minutes.) The Council of the City of Woodston met in the Council Chamber at the City Hall on Monday, December 12th, 2022 at 7:00 p.m.

The Stockton Area Chamber of Commerce elected its new officers at the Jingle Mingle held at Solutions North Bank on Tuesday, December 13th. Returning members are Trisha Kriley (president), Courtney Flower (vice president and City of Stockton representative), Chelsey Peterson (treasurer), and Stephanie Niblock (USD #271 representative). Jesica Kerr (member-at-large), Adam Bryant (secretary) and Jason Creighton (mem-ber-at-large) are the new Chamber members. Ravin States-Leake is the Chamber’s Executive Director with her office now located in the Stockton City Office.

In 1867, the Kansas Legislature established Rooks County. Settlement in the county began in 1871 along the South Solomon River and the Medicine Creek Valley and in 1872 Stockton and Rooks Centre were started.

Jevin Rush and Waylon Ghumm of the Stockton Wrestling Club competed on December 31st at the Scott City Open. The tournament was a big one, with over 500 kids competing.

As 2022 wraps up, the Heartland Community Foundation would like to share their fiscal year 2022 granting highlights and a new 15-year grantmaking total. The Heartland Community Foundation proudly granted $424,772 in fiscal year 2022 to 67 organizations for 129 projects.

December 19, 2022 Rick and Janie Lowry are so happy to announce the birth of their first great-grandchild! Mary May Vajnar was born on Dec. 19, 2022 at Hays Med Center to Haley and Conrad Vajnar! The cutie weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces and was 21 inches long.

The Rooks County Landfill rates increased as of January 1st, 2023. The rates are as follows: Minimum rate is $10.00; Municipal Waste is $40.00 a ton with a minimum weight of 500 pounds (under 500 pounds has a minimum charge of $10.00); and Construction Waste is $30.00 a ton with a minimum weight of 680 pounds (under 680 pounds has a minimum charge of $10.00).
