County commissioners terminate road and bridge/landfill foreman

At the Rooks County Commission meeting on Tuesday, September 12th, the commissioners voted to terminate Rich Bouchey as road and bridge foreman and landfill foreman, effective immediately. They had held an executive session before the decision, with Bouchey in attendance during the session. The commissioners will now look for new leadership in that position, with more details to follow on the job description.

Governor Kelly announces 27 cities to receive $22M for highway improvements

Governor Laura Kelly announced last Wednesday, September 13, that 27 cities across Kansas, including Stockton, would receive a total of $22 million for projects to improve intersections and state highways extending through towns as part of the Kansas Department of Transportation’s City Connecting Link Improvement Program (CCLIP). “My administration is committed to preserving and improving Kansas highways by investing transportation dollars in the projects where they can do the most good,” said Governor Kelly.

SHS Homecoming festivities lined up for next week

It’s almost Homecoming Week at Stockton, with the students ready to pump up the spirit throughout the halls and downtown beginning Tuesday, September 26th. Since there is no school on Monday due to a Teacher Inservice Day, the theme dress-up days will start on Tuesday as follows: Tuesday is Decades Day; Wednesday is Tourist/ Vacation Day; Thursday is Zoom (Business on Top/Casual on Bottoms) Day, and Blue Out Day on Friday! Events during the week will take place on Thursday, September 28th, with the KAYS class games at Tiger Stadium at 7:00 p.m.

Stockton Fire Department called to grass fire Monday afternoon

The Stockton Fire Department was called out Monday afternoon, at 3:20, for a grass fire on 9 & R Road.

This location is approximately four miles south of Webster Reservoir.

Please use extreme caution if you are in the area of this fire.
