Cindy Jackson, Phoenix, Ariz., passed away on March 23, 2023, at her home at the age of 65.

She was born June 21, 1957, in Loveland, Colo., the daughter of Ronald and Robin (Larken) Jackson.  

She graduated from Phillipsburg High School in Phillipsburg.

She was united in marriage to Larry Gwennup in 1975. The couple later divorced.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ronald.

Elda Hamit passed away on Monday morning, July 17, 2023, at the Rooks County Health Center at the age of 100.

he was born on May 17, 1923, to Leo and Eva (Atkinson) Elliott in Torrington, Wyo.

She spent the first two and one-half years of her life in Wyoming before moving to Kansas, where she enjoyed growing up on the farm in northern Rooks County. She attended country school in Bow Creek Township for the first six years of grade school, and then two more years in Phillips County.

Henry E. Schindler

Henry E. Schindler, age 76, passed away July 10, 2023, at the University of Kansas Health System in Great Bend, Kan.

He was born April 16, 1947, in Hays, Kansas, to Ray and Vera (Arrington) Schindler.

Henry grew up on the family farm in Greenfield Township in Rooks County, Kan., where he learned the value of hard work.

He attended the Elm Creek Country School and Stockton High School.

Henry married Bernadine Schultz; to this union were two sons, Don and Rick. They later divorced.

Joe Milton Fetterolf III

Joe Milton Fetterolf III, 68, of Ulysses, Kansas, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.

He was born May 7, 1955, in Plainville, Kansas, the son of Joe “Sunny” and Dorothy Loree (McLaughlin) Fetterolf, Jr.

Joe and his sister, Jolene, grew up in Plainville.

He married Debra Carter on April 20, 1974, in Liberal, Kansas, and was her best friend for 49 years.

Patricia A. (Kollman) Middleton

Patricia A. “Pat” (Kollman) Middleton, 88, passed away June 17, 2023, in Magnolia, Texas, where she had made her home for several years.

She was born December 18, 1934, to Henry and Laura Kollman in Woodston, Kan.

Pat graduated from Woodston Rural High School after attending her early years at the one-room school in the Survey School District. Following high school, she attended and graduated from Kansas State University.

Arthur Lee “Art” Wilkens

Arthur Lee “Art” Wilkens, of Stockton, passed away on July 7, 2023, at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, at the age of 87.

He was born on April 2, 1936, the third son of Charley and Jessie (Herren) Wilkens at the family farm home in Cheyenne County, Kansas.

Art attended Walnut Grove country school through 8th grade, then Regis (a catholic boarding school) in Denver, Colo., his freshman year of high school. He then went to St. Joseph’s Military Academy in Hays for his sophomore year but graduated from McDonald Rural High in 1953.
