It’s the 39th annual Parade of Christmas Trees at the Stockton Public Library! This year many of the decorations for the trees took their inspiration from Stockton’s Olde Tyme Christmas On Gingerbread Lane. Gingerbread men, women, houses and more adorn most of the twenty-five trees on display in the Carnegie Room of the Stockton Public Library this year.

At the regular meeting of the Stockton City Commission on Tuesday, November 21st, the commissioners started the session by approving the Solomon Valley Manor hand checks to Parkway Construction. They also approved the Gift Fund Advisory Board’s recommendation to donate funds toward the school’s new popcorn machine, and Dollar General’s cereal malt beverage license for the coming year.

Even though Governor Laura Kelly was to make the official appointment until later in the week, during the Rooks County Commission meeting on Tuesday, November 14th, commissioners Tim Berland and John Ruder were informed that the Republican Party had recommended Jake Prockish to fill the unexpired term of former commissioner Kayla Hilbrink.

Clerk Laura Montgomery swore in Jake Prockish as the new Rooks County Commissioner at the start of the meeting on Tuesday, November 21st. Governor Laura Kelly officially appointed Prockish to fill the vacancy left by Kayla Hilbrink after she accepted the position of the City of Stockton’s manager/ clerk.

The Rooks County Historical Society and Museum in Stockton (921 South Cedar) cordially invites the community to join them in a fun afternoon of poetry reading, refreshments, music, and friends on Sunday, December 10th, at 2:00 p.m.

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has revealed a new license plate design that will be available starting in the spring of 2024. The new plate has a wheatyellow color in the background with black and midnight blue text.

At the special meeting of the Stockton Unified School District No. 271 Board of Education held Tuesday, November 20th, the members present voted to approve the Ratification of the Negotiated Agreement for the 2023-2024 school year.

Loren and Clarene Goodheart have called Stockton their home for over 50 years, but they are now looking toward their next adventure when they move to Wind Crest in Highlands Ranch, a suburb of Denver, within the next few months. But before they leave, the Stockton Methodist Church of Restoration is hosting a Reception in their honor this Saturday, December 2nd, for their dedication to the church and community.

During the Rooks County Commission meeting on Tuesday, November 14th, Rooks County Attorney Danielle Muir, Don Hoffman with Redbud Village, and Plainville City Attorney Michael Baxter were present. Also present were Rooks County Senior Services members Rusty Hrabe and Leasa Hrabe, and Action Pact members Steve Shields and Bastiaan Stoffelen. The topic was Redbud Village.

Governor Laura Kelly appointed Jake Prockish to fill the Rooks County Commissioner for District #1 vacancy on Friday, November 17th. Kayla Hilbrink recently resigned as commissioner when she accepted the position as the City of Stockton’s new manager/clerk.
