Stockton’s Olde Tyme Christmas on Gingerbread Lane is this Friday

Stockton’s annual Olde Tyme Christmas on Gingerbread Lane will be one sweet event! The Stockton Fire Department Pancake Feed, which kick off the event at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 24th, with volunteers serving fresh and hot pancakes until 1:00 p.m. at Stockton City Hall, will be one of the highlights.

Kim Thomas is Stockton’s Olde Tyme Christmas Grand Marshal

When she became Stockton’s Mayor, Kim Thomas made history as Kansas’s first female African-American mayor. She was first elected to the Stockton City Commission in 1999, and the Commission selected her as mayor in 2002. She served in that position for 18 years and on the city commission until January 2020.

DSNWK celebrates successes at Awards Luncheon

Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas hosted its annual awards luncheon in Hays on October 17th. Awards were given throughout the afternoon to staff, persons served, and community members. The afternoon's first awards were given to DSNWK employees for their years of service. Among staff recognized and listed by location were Gimmie Jo Jansonius of Stockton.

Kayla Hilbrink conducts first commission meeting as City manager/clerk

One of the first items on the agenda for the Stockton City Commission meeting on Tuesday, November 7th, was the approval of new city manager/ clerk Kayla Hilbrink’s contract. Once the commissioners approved the agreement, they appointed Hilbrink to the Rooks County Development Board to serve out the term of Courtney Flower. They also appointed Adam Bryant as the Stockton Chamber of Commerce board member as the City’s representative.

Jake Prockish to fulfill Rooks County Commissioner Kayla Hilbrink's unexpired term

Even though Governor Laura Kelly was to make the official appointment until later in the week, during the Rooks County Commission meeting on Tuesday, November 14th, commissioners Tim Berland and John Ruder were informed that the Republican Party had recommended Jake Prockish to fill the unexpired term of former commissioner Kayla Hilbrink.

For Stockton City Commission (Two Positions)—Adam Bryant 235; Jesica Kerr 233; and Loren Trowbridge 24.

For Plainville City Mayor—Bret Greenwood 162; and Quentin Meyers 266.

For USD 270-Plainville (Four At-Large Positions)—Lori Austin 310; Nathan Grebowiec 245; Lenee Horting 215; Cassandra Meyers 283; Azarel Molina 403; and Marlene Whitney 306.

A total of 1,001 of the county's 3,660 voters checked in for this year's election, which is 27.35%.
