As 2022 wraps up, the Heartland Community Foundation would like to share their fiscal year 2022 granting highlights and a new 15-year grantmaking total. The Heartland Community Foundation proudly granted $424,772 in fiscal year 2022 to 67 organizations for 129 projects.
December 19, 2022 Rick and Janie Lowry are so happy to announce the birth of their first great-grandchild! Mary May Vajnar was born on Dec. 19, 2022 at Hays Med Center to Haley and Conrad Vajnar! The cutie weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces and was 21 inches long.

The Rooks County Landfill rates increased as of January 1st, 2023. The rates are as follows: Minimum rate is $10.00; Municipal Waste is $40.00 a ton with a minimum weight of 500 pounds (under 500 pounds has a minimum charge of $10.00); and Construction Waste is $30.00 a ton with a minimum weight of 680 pounds (under 680 pounds has a minimum charge of $10.00).
The 38th annual Parade of Christmas Trees at the Stockton Public Library has come to a close with many creative trees on display this year. One hundred and thirty-seven people visited the Library and voted for their favorites throughout the month of December. The winners were recently announced as follows: (Adult Category)
The Plainville Fire Department called out the Stockton Fire Department for mutual aid on Monday, December 26th a 12:50 p.m. for a structural fire. The mutual aid call is a standard practice when it is for a structural fire. It was called off before Stockton arrived due to it being a false alarm.
Hayden Lee Hilliard December 6, 2022 Grant and Lexi Hilliard of Shawnee are happy to announce the birth of their first child, Hayden Lee Hilliard. He was born Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at 4:12 p.m., at Saint Luke’s Hospital.
The University of Nebraska at Kearney announced students who earned a place on the Dean’s List for the fall 2022 semester. Among those from Rooks County included: Rylan Miller Basart of Stockton and Brooklyn Grace Staab of Plainville.
