Crossroads Quilt Guild

The regular monthly meeting o the Crossroads Quilt Guild was held on Monday, January 16th, 2023, at Stitch and chatter with 19 members present. Hostesses were the officers: Lynda Falley, Toni Anderson, Diane Maddy, and Linda Gardner. Diane Maddy gave the Treasurer’s Report. A motion was made to approve the Treasurer’s Report and the minutes from the November meeting. The motion was seconded and carried. Plainville had seven at their Sew Day, and Stockton had four. The next Sew Days will be on February 8th in Plainville and February 11th in Stockton. Membership dues are $15.00 and are due now. A motion was made for the Guild to give Idona $50.00 for a wedding gift. It was unanimously approved. There was a discussion about putting the Guild’s minutes on Facebook. Five baby quilts will be given to the Plainville Food Pantry to be given away. The door prize was brought by Nicole Ganoung and won by Kenda Ross. The next meeting will be held on Monday, February 20th. It will be a potluck with a gift exchange. The price limit is between $15.00 and $20.00. A motion was made by Diane Maddy to adjourn and was seconded by Connie Hasselhorst. Motion carried.— Sent in by secretary Linda Gardner.

Stockton Public Library 2022 annual report

The Stockton Public Library has released its annual 2022 report. The numbers are as follows: library was open 2,080 hours; 1,096 people have a library cards; 14,050 people utilized the facility; the collection contained 1,841,164 items; printed materials totaled 13,924; physical videos totaled 141; 1,769 e-materials were borrowed, contributing to a total of 9,571 checkouts; lent items to other libraries 910 times, with 597 items brought in upon patron requests; 1,462 public computer users; 86 programs offered with 1,281 people attending them.

Phone: 785-994-6370 (home) or 785-476-5206 Every small town needs a coffee shop or watering hole and Woodston now sports two coffee shops. Betty Lala is open weekday mornings at the former elevator office for coffee, and she keeps the farmers and ranchers well-fed with cinnamon rolls and baked treats. Card games are held some afternoons. The Woodston United Methodist Church was purchased by Kenny and Patty Lay and is now the site of Penn Street Place. Open on Saturday mornings at 9:00 a.m., coffee and treats are enjoyed, as well as visiting. The Lays chose Kansas to retire, moving from the Fresno, California area. Patty was involved in daycare and Kenny in auto and tire repair auto and tire repair. They have ties to Woodston since Patty is Ali (Grady) Imel’s mother. Grady is the son of the late Carleta Imel of Woodston. Patty is enjoying Kansas sunflowers, cardinals, and the prairie wide-open spaces. They offer the church to the community for gatherings and funerals.

Stockton Fire calls answered

The Stockton Fire Department answered two calls last week, with the first on Wednesday, January 29th, at 7:00 p.m. A vehicle had hit a deer east of town on Highway 24. The car engine had steam from a broken radiator hose, which broke on impact, looking like the vehicle was on fire. The volunteers were on the scene for less than ten minutes.

The Hobart Homemakers FCE group met Monday, Jan. 23, 2023, at the United Methodist Church in Stockton at 7 p.m. Susan G. opened the meeting with the flag salute and Gail read the FCE mission. The treasurer's report was read and approved. Our profit from our greenery sales was $1,208.46, which was an increase from last year!
