OBERLIN — Steve and Cynthia Haynes surprised their staff at The Oberlin Herald and across northwest Kansas last Friday morning with an announcement that they were retiring from the newspaper business, effective immediately. McPHERSON — A McPherson woman was sentenced to more than 36 years in prison for her conviction on charges of second-degree reckless murder and battery on a law enforcement officer in connection with the death of a McPherson man in 2020, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said. Phillips Co. woman jailed after toddler exposed to drugs

PHILLIPS COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect on multiple drug allegations after a toddler was exposed to drugs. Just after midnight Friday morning, sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant at a home in rural Phillips County. This warrant was the result of an earlier call to the Phillips County Hospital emergency room in which it was reported that a 20-month-old toddler had been exposed to a possible illicit drug.
