Busy morning for county commissioners

The commissioners met with sheriff Gary Knight on Tuesday, September 6th at their regular Rooks County Commission meeting. Knight informed the commissioners that he is working on a vehicle lease agreement and is setting up an account with the county clerk and treasurer for direct withdrawal. Money from his department’s equipment fund will be put into the account when necessary. He is now getting numbers together for two pickups and one car.

The October 6th Sentinel will include our annual Homecoming Feature, with individual pictures of the Tiger athletes (football, volleyball and cross country), coaching staff, Cheer and Dance, sponsored by local merchants, organizations, and individuals. Rooks State Fish Lake remains in “Warning” Advisory for Blue-Green Algae

For the second week in a row, Rooks County State Fishing Lake in under an active “Warning” Advisory for Blue-Green Algae.

The latest advisories were released Friday afternoon, September 9, from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP).

A “Warning” status indicates that conditions are unsafe for human and pet exposure.  Contact with the waterbody should be avoided.

No other lakes in the immediate area are under a “Warning” or “Watch” advisory at this time.

Commodity Commission Candidates Must File by November 30

Grain growers in central Kansas who plan to campaign for a seat on one of the state’s five grain commodity commissions— corn, grain sorghum, soybeans, wheat or sunflowers— should be gathering petition signatures now to meet the November 30, 2022, filing deadline. The 2023 election will cover districts four, five, and six; or the central third of Kansas.
