Lynn Rogers looking into Emergency Financial Assistance for Farmers and Communities affected by the Drought in Western Kansas The drought that is currently affecting farmers and communities in western Kansas strikes close to Treasurer Lynn Rogers’ heart, having grown up on a farm himself. As conditions continue to impact Kansans, the State Treasurer’s Office is exploring options for emergency financial assistance to those being impacted by the situation.
Busy morning for county commissioners

The commissioners met with sheriff Gary Knight on Tuesday, September 6th at their regular Rooks County Commission meeting. Knight informed the commissioners that he is working on a vehicle lease agreement and is setting up an account with the county clerk and treasurer for direct withdrawal. Money from his department’s equipment fund will be put into the account when necessary. He is now getting numbers together for two pickups and one car.
Damar Acadia of the West-fest a huge success

The Damar Acadia of the Westfest held September 2-4 was a huge success when nearly 500 area and former Damar residents took to the streets of Damar for a Labor Day Weekend festival. It all started out with a gathering Friday night which included food, street music and the Redline Car Cruisers making their way around the town.

Rooks County Courthouse getting a “facelift”

The Rooks County Courthouse will celebrate its 100th anniversary next April. So for the past few years preparations have been underway to “spruce up” and restore the impressive building made of Bedford stone with an underlay of vitrified brick and constructed by Cuthbert & Son of Topeka.
Rooks State Fish Lake remains in “Warning” Advisory for Blue-Green Algae

For the second week in a row, Rooks County State Fishing Lake in under an active “Warning” Advisory for Blue-Green Algae.
The latest advisories were released Friday afternoon, September 9, from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP).
A “Warning” status indicates that conditions are unsafe for human and pet exposure. Contact with the waterbody should be avoided.
No other lakes in the immediate area are under a “Warning” or “Watch” advisory at this time.
KDOT announces approved August bids

The Kansas Department of Transportation announces approved bids for state highway construction and maintenance projects. The letting took place Aug. 17, 2022, in Topeka. Some of the bids may include multiple projects that have been bundled based on proximity and type of work.
New healthcare provider joins the RCH family

Rooks County Health Center (RCH) welcomes a new Physician Assistant (PA) to the service provider roster. Cheyenne Armbruster- Wahrman has just recently passed her board certifications and will begin providing care at RCH on September 12.
